 While everyone usually associates the name Brooklyn with hip-hop, like the NYC borough itself, Pop Smoke , who has taken the world by surprise and created his reputation as a rapper, singer, and songwriter going by his artist name, Pop Smoke. He was a very talented young man who had big influences in an otherwise very conservative musical scene in Brooklyn. He started making music back in 2018, and by 2019  he  released two breakout singles  ‘Welcome To The Party’ and ‘Dior’. But when the headlines read “Brooklyn New York rapper Pop Smoke Murdered at Home Invasion”, sadness swept the globe. His death shook the hip-hop community to its core and created a dark cloud of sadness in the hearts of millions.

Pop Smoke's untimely death has left the rap community in mourning. His unique style and charisma made him a rising star in the hip hop world, and his loss is felt by many. In the aftermath of his death, tributes have been pouring in from all corners of the music industry. Artists have been sharing their memories of Pop Smoke and paying homage to his legacy. The rap community has come together to celebrate the life of a young man who had so much potential. Pop Smoke will be missed by many, but his memory will live on through his music.

Pop Smoke, born Bashar Jackson, on July 20, 1999 in Brooklyn, New York. His parents, Audrey and Greg Jackson, his father was Panamanian. His mother was Jamaican. Jackson grew up in a two parent household and was taught morals and responsibilities. Trouble seemed to lurk behind Jackson's young life, and at just eight years old he was caught bringing a gun into his school leading into him getting expelled. Jackson spent two years on house arrest and charged with possession of a handgun. While attempting to put the past behind him he relocated with his family to Philadelphia and  enrolled in Rocktop Academy. While attending the school he played basketball as a pointer and shooting guard, Jackson enjoyed being on a team and was building a sturdy foundation for his soon to be future. Unfortunately, that came to a hauling stop when trouble struck Jackson’s life yet again. Jackson came against some concerning health issues and was diagnosed with a heart murmur not long after. Jackson could no longer play basketball and was disqualified from Rocktop Academy. It wasn’t long before Jackson turned to the streets, and became accustomed to the lifestyle 

In 2018, Jackson attempted for the first time to rap during a visit to a recording studio in Brooklyn. One year later, he released “Flexin”. During that time he met and became good friends with record producer Rico Beats. It didn't take long before he was introduced to record executive Steven Victor. After signing record label VictorVictor and Republic records, Pop Smoke released his breakout hit “Welcome to the Party”, the single recorded many versions including copies Nicki Minaj and one featuring Skepta.

The late rapper, was a formidable force in the rap industry. His unique style and flow caught the attention of many. He quickly rose to fame even though he was only 20 years old at the time of his death. He had already accomplished a lot during his short career. He had a bright future ahead of him and was well on his way to becoming one of the biggest names in the rap industry. Pop Smoke's music was a mix of drill, trap, and R&B. He was known for his distinctive voice and delivery.

A Genius interview says that Pop Smoke's artist name is a combination of "poppa", a name his Panamanian grandma had for him, and "smocco Guwap", a nickname from his childhood friends would call him; Pop Smoke also used it as his old instagram username.

The death of Pop Smoke broke many of Jackson's fans hearts, but without a doubt flipped his parents' lives upside down. His parents shared memories of him before stating how gun violence had taken him away from us .

On February 19th, at four in the morning, a gun was used to take my son away from me. You know him as Pop Smoke and we called him "Shar.” Because of gun violence, I'll never see my son run up the front steps taking them two at a time. He won't ever take my hand again and dance with me; he won't come into my room and muscle pose in the mirror. Gun violence destroys families. It must stop.

New York rapper 50 cent was the executive producer for Pop Smoke's posthumous debut studio album Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon. The album was released on July 3, 2020. The idea for the name originated from Pop Smoke before his death and the Shoot For The Stars Foundation began with the goal of helping and inspiring inner city youth.

King Von's story | Hip Hop In Chicago

 

Many artists take inspiration from their elders, but few reach the heights of success that King von had. Dayvon Bennett was a rapper and songwriter known for his hit songs on Chicago’s hip-hop scene before he passed away at just 26 years old. But his impact on the world of music is something that will last long even after his passing in 2020.. From his time on earth, there became many moments that contributed into his success, and as we continue to uncover more about this artist who seemed to have it all, we might just begin to know why Von held greatness from within.

Rapper and songwriter known by King Von, grew up in the streets of Chicago Illinois. From his short time of being alive, Dayvon Daquan Bennett made his tribute to the hip-hop community and became an influential artist amongst his peer’s and beloved fans. Continually uncovering the journey of Dayvons Bennett’s life reminds his fans who King Von was and what hardship’s helped prepare him for his near success. Many factors would have contributed into King Vons success, and as we fully uncover the life of an extraordinarily gifted young artist, we will only just begin to understand a life in Dayvon Bennett's shoes.

While growing up, Dayvon didn’t get a chance to grow a solid foundation with his father, Walter. It was unfortunate for Von when his parents divorced shortly after his birth, while Walter spent the next 11 years in and out of prison. Deyvon missed out on having a father role model. Walter eventually was released from prison, eager to make up for the stolen time with his son; however, it was never revived due to sadly being cut short when Walter was shot and killed in his front yard when Von was only 11 years old. Von had it rough during his childhood; his mother checked out mentally due to Oblock’s violent crime rate and unhealthy poverty conditions. It didn’t stop Dayvon from pursuing a normal childhood though; he enjoyed playing baseball.

In 2012, street life caught up with Dayvon Bennett, and at 16 years old Von was booked into the Cook county jail. Charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, this was just the start of his run ins with law. While serving his time, Von met different types of men, but when he introduced hisself to the street gang, “Back Disciples”, he quickly joined and was a member before he knew it. Deyvon also earned his GED certificate only after dropping out of his high school before serving his time. Once released Von attempted to better his life with furthering his education and attended South Suburban college, in South Holland, Illinois., where he earned a few college credits.

On May 23rd, 2014, a murder took place in the city of Baltimore. The victim was Malcolm Stuckey, who had been walking home from work. He was shot in the head and rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. The police quickly identified Deyvon Bennett as a suspect and arrested him July 24th. He was charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. A year later, on November 5th 2015, the charges against Dayvon were dropped due to lack of evidence from witnesses who could testify against him and because there was no physical evidence connecting him to either crime scene.

Acquitted from the murder charges, Von took life’s second chance pretty seriously, and when Von met Lil Durk, the rest was history.

With an illustrious career and undeniable talent, King Von is one  of Chicago's most beloved rappers. He has worked with everyone from Chance the Rapper to Kanye West, and his music is full of deep like lyrics about life struggles in Chicago. Passing away November 6th, 2020. A true hip-hop icon, he will be sorely missed by everyone who loves real rap music.

Mac Miller; The Life and Death of Malcom James McCormick. '92-'18

Yet another celebrity has died from addiction. This time, it is the beloved musician Mac Miller. Mac quickly rose to fame, and his soulful music captured the hearts of fans around the world. Sadly, despite his success, Miller struggled with addiction for many years. In 2018, he tragically lost his battle and passed away at his home in LA, California. Miller's death is a stark reminder of the dangers of addiction. His death has left the world reeling, as it is a tragic reminder of how addiction can destroy even the most talented  and brilliant of minds.

Mac Miller was born Malcolm James McCormick on January 19, 1992, and was an American rapper and record producer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From the begining, Malcom showed immense talent, he was a self taught musician and began teaching hisself how to play instruments such as the piano, guitar, drums, and bass at the early age of 6. Having a dream to always become a singer, Malcom began to learn to rap at 14 years old, he decided he would chase the fame that followed a rap artist. McCormick buckled down becoming more serious, he was determined to climb his way up the latter. Mac even made a statement backing up his actions:

"Once I hit 15, I got real serius about it and it changed my life completely... I used to be into sports, play all the sports, go to all the high school parties. But once I found out hip-hop is almost like a job, that's all I did." Going by a starter name of, Easy Mac (Ez Mac), before settling for his popular fame name, Mac Miller, he released the mixtape, But My Mackin Ain't Easy, in 2007. Two years go by, and the young rapper established hisself as Mac Miller, and with the new founded name came two brand new mixtapes, The Juicebox: prelude to Class Clown and The Highlife.

Mac Miller first gained his popularity in 2010 with the release mixtape K.I.D.S., which received critical praise from major publications. During this point in Mac's career, he signed with Rostrum Records, which was an independent label that worked with wiz khalifa. Mac started to draw more and more attention to hisself and turning heads of many different record labels, Miller declined every opportunity presented from major record labels, and stayed with Rostrum Records, due to the location of being close to his hometown and the association it held with wiz khalifa. This would be the start of the two rap stars unbreakable friendship, almost like brothers even. Accomplished and proud from the hard work that seemed to be impossible, became a real breakthrough with a focus on social media engagement, digital sales, and presistent touring, due to a lack of radio airplay or mainstream features gave Mac a will to push forward ànd figure a way around the road block set to hold him back. 

His debut album, Blue Slide Park, which featured three hit singles, Frick Park Market, Party On Fifrth Ave, and Smile Back all gaining spots on Billboard hot 100 charts. Blue Slide Park debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart in 2011, with $144,000 in the first week sales, and the album debuted atop Billboard 200 charts, which was the first to do so since 1995 having disturtion only through a independent record label, Rostrum records. The album gained gold certification. Throughout his career, Miller developed a unique hybrid style of rap that blended elements of hip hop rap, jazz, and electronic music. 

2011, Mac Miller was at it again, releasing his 5th mixtape, Best Day Ever, which feature single, Donald Trump. Donald Trump quickly became heard from around the world, and was Mac's first song to chart on U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Best Day Ever peaked at #75 and received plantium certifications. Miller went and finished up 2011 on a successful note, releasing a 6 track EP, On and On, and Beyond, hitting the Billboard 200 charts and landing at #55.

Mac Miller's music was a breath of fresh air during his breakout season. His carefree attitude and fun-loving songs were infectious, and he quickly became a fan favorite. Mac starred in most of his own music videos, which depicted him smoking weed, going to the grocery store in pajamas, and eating junk food with not a care in the world. He embraced his inner child and lets loose, something that fans loved about him.

Mac's music was widely regarded as "frap rap", containing lyrics focusing on partying, skipping school, and lusting over fame, women, and money. However, Mac Miller was much more than just a rapper. He was an artist who created music that was real and relevant.

Mac Miller's 2012 mixtape Macadelic was a turning point in the rapper's career. The single "Loud" was a hit, peaking at number 53 on the Billboard Hot 100. But behind the scenes, Miller was struggling with addiction.

Somewhere between moving to California and making hits, Miller got a taste for the high life. He began abusing lean, a powerful narcotic. Miller enjoyed getting high, and it was no secret to the world. Mac always enjoyed getting high and living a fun and carefree life, with no consequences or anyone to answer to. But as the years passed, Mac got older and wiser, and realized how shallow and lonely his life had become. Depression soon followed the artist, and his once carefree life became anything but. Deciding to get clean and remain sober for one year and a day seemed like an accomplishment, and would prove that McCormick could get sober and stay sober for the whole year and a day. 

Malcolm also starred in a six- episode realality series on MTV 2. The MTV series was named "Mac Miller and The Most Dope Family." This was a great opportunity in Mac's career, it followed the production of his upcoming second studio album. The album premiered on February 26, 2013 and was named, Watching Movies With The Sound Off, which contained almost all instrumental done my Miller. 

Malcolm wasn't shy on expressing how much he disliked being sober, and as soon as the one year and a day was reached, Miller was back to his old ways. During an interview in 2014, McCormick revealed that his daily routine was constantly consuming drugs just to avoid sobering up.

In 2013, Imprint REMembert Music was founded by Mac Miller, owned and operated independently, he named it in honor of his friend that passed away.

In 2014, Miller signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records and released his second studio album, Watching Movies with the Sound Off. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard 200.

Miller's third studio album, GO:OD AM, was released in 2015 to positive reviews. It debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). 

2018 was a bittersweet year for Mac Miller. He released his fourth studio album Swimming to critical acclaim. Following its release, he toured extensively, performing sold-out shows across the country. Unfortunately, 2018 was also the year that Miller died of an accidental drug overdose at just 26 years old. Documents state that Malcolm McCormick consumed a mixture of cocaine, fentanyl, and alcohol which lead to his body shutting down, and sadly killing Malcolm at his L.A home during the late night hours.  His death sent shockwaves through the music community and beyond, as fans and celebrities alike mourned the loss of a talented young man with so much still left to give.

 

Mac Miller's final album, Circles, was released in 2020. Although Millers death was accidentally and a shock it was as if he knew he would be leaving this world, only leaving behind this great album as a farewell salut. RIP to a without doubt one of kind, a beautiful soul, and a gifted musician we were selfishness blessed to have and got to experience.

The Rise Of Dababy: An Analysis

Jonathan Lyndale Kirk is an  American rapper known professionally as Dababy. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 22, 1991. Kirk began his career in 2014, and rose quickly to the top of the charts with his first debut album. With many fans showing their support for their favorite artist, it’s clear that Dababy has a very dedicated fan base who can’t wait to see where his career will take him.

When Jonathan Kirk was just eight years old, his family moved from the family home in Ohio to Charlotte, North Carolina. It was 1999 and Kirk continued to hold his title as the youngest when referring to him and his two older brother’s, while growing up in one of Charlotte's many neighborhoods. Kirk attended Julius L. Vance High School until he graduated in 2010. After high school he attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for two years without earning a degree; he dropped out because he wasn't interested in college like his parents wanted him to be. Unfortunately, Jonathan lost his father in 2019. It wasn't until the sudden passing of one of Kirk’s older brother’s, Glen Johnson, that Kirk became more involved in his own life. His brother died because of a tragic accident— Glen Johnson, who was born in 1984 and five years older than Kirk, died due to self-inflicted gunshot wound. His death was ruled as a suicide.

In memory of his father passing in 2019, Jonathan’s second studio album is a tribute to his last name “Kirk” released on September 27, 2019. The albums cover picture has a photo of his late father. The album simultaneously charted seven acts reaching a total of three or more songs in the top 6 of Billboard Hot 100, also it was the first album that topped U.S Billboard Hot 200. “Kirk” featured collaborations from artists such as Kevin Gates, Chance the Rapper, Gucci Mane, Yk Osiris, Nikki Minaj, Lil Baby, Moneybagg yo, Stunna 4 Vega, and Migos.

Jonathan’s brother, Glen, took his life on November 3rd, 2020. Devastating the entire family, Jonathan began expressing his thoughts and frustrations through his lyrics in his songs. In Jonathan’s first single “Intro” from his second studio album and multi-platinum record “Kirk”, he mentions and refers to his brother’s struggles.

“My brother be thinkin’ that we don’t love him and let him struggle like we ain’t family like I won't                    give up all I got to see you happy.”

A few weeks passed since the death of Glen, and on November 20th, 2020 Jonathan released his debut EP, “My Brother’s Keeper (Long Live G)”. Dedicated to the life of Jonathan’s beloved and oldest brother, forever in memory and in the hearts of all his loved ones.

Before Jonathan knew he would become Dababy, before the world knew who he was and before his career began taking off, there was a time when Jonathan was just a college dropout with an uncertain future. Yet, in 2014, Jonathan started taking music seriously, growing up and having influences and idols like future, Lil Wayne, Eminem, 50 cent, and Kayne West. He began producing mixtape after mixtape. Yet it wasn't until a year later in 2015 when Jonathan's career really took off. The set off to Jonathan’s music career started by the release of his first debut mixtape named “nonfiction”. During this time of getting established, Kirk started using his stage name Baby Jesus. Although it was a catchy name, Kirk ultimately choose Baby Jesus because he felt as if it reflected his purpose as a rapper and that the name helped celebrate his so far success and potential during that time.

It wasn't long before Baby Jesus became the more commonly known name of Dababy. Eventually coming to terms with the fact that his previous name brought too much negative energy and was too political for what the rapper stood for. Overall, the name Baby Jesus created unwanted attention and a distraction that would progressively worsen over time as fame increased. This name change seemingly had no major affect on his likenesses and his growing fan base accepted the change. Also, it might not be obvious to many fans but behind Jonathan's choice's on having “baby” affiliated with his performance name comes from the simple fact that he was the youngest kid out of his 2 older brothers.

While in the process of establishing his online reputation, Dababy also welcomed his first child in 2017. Dababy and his now ex-girlfriend, Meme, share a daughter together, naming her Serenity. Jonathan also took on the responsibility of fathering a child his ex-girlfriend had from another relationship, a boy named Caleb. While Dababy and Meme were taking a break from the relationship, Dababy met Latonia Panet, which would follow in the birth of Dababy's second daughter, Nova. In August 2021 Jonathan finally welcomed his last baby girl with American singer Danileigh. The relationship between Jonathan and Danileigh was short lived, lasting from 2020 till 2021, causing Dababy more drama than he had anticipated out of all three women who gave birth to one of his children.

In February 2022, Danileigh's brother, Brandon Bills, was allegedly assaulted by Jonathan and his crew after an argument broke out on Instagram between Danileigh and Dababy. The drama continued when Jonathan allegedly jumped Brandon while they were at a bowling alley in Los Angeles with their crews.

Dababy has been involved in numerous crimes throughout his career. In November 2018, Dababy was involved in a shooting that took place at a Walmart in Huntersville, North Carolina. The incident resulted in the death of 19-year-old who would be pronounced dead upon arriving to the hospital. Dababy quickly became the prime suspect in the murder investigation and spent four months incarcerated before being cleared from any serious charges in March of 2019; his lawyers stated that he acted in self-defense and responded only to feeling that his life was endangered. He did plead guilty to carrying a concealed weapon as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

 This wouldn’t be the last time Dababy would have legal issues. After being detained and questioned about a robbery in Miami, Florida, he was eventually cleared due to lack of evidence. However, he did spend some time in jail due to an outstanding warrant issued out for his arrest in the state of Texas for another charge. In more recent news, it doesn’t seem like Dababy’s bad run with legal issues is slowing down. Fortunately, luck seems to play on his side; CNN relayed the following statement:

“no charges will be filled in trespassing where a shooting occurred involving the presence of rapper Dababy, Dababy will not face charges after invader shot at his home”

 Dababy opened fire on a man who was approaching his home, unaware of the danger. Dababy defended his home without a second’s hesitation.

Dababy’s success officially blew up after he accepted and signed a short-lived distribution deal with Jay z, a American rapper, record executive, and media proprietor. He is one of the most influential hip-hop artists in history. The collaborative distribution deal fell under Jay z’s record label “roc Nation”, which followed in the making of Dababy’s “Blank Blank” mixtape, released in 2018, leaving speculators believing that this was proof of his breakout to his success. The mixtape opened thousands of new doors for a relevantly new and on the up n up rap artist. From main stream hype to creating a fun upbeat form of music and hip-hop all together,  he has continued to put a good feeling twist while creating his positive, hyper genic, and easygoing styled music into the world as a breath of fresh air. Along side with other widely spread source’s, such as, Charles Holmes, from The Rolling Stones, has stated the following in describing Dababy’s unique rapping flow:

“Staccato, precise, and brutal rapping store, a syllable-crushing force. Delivered with such forward momentum it often gives the illusion that he starts rapping before the beat begins.”

 In his statement, Holmes said that the most notable example of this effect is in his hit single “Suge”. The single debuted on Billboard Hot 100 ranking number 87 in April, and then again hit the charts on June 8th, peaking at number 10. The hit single also received additional exposure, and was featured on the cover of XXL magazine as part of the Freshman Class-2019. At the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony held in April 2020, Dababy won two awards for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song of 2020. So far, he has won 7 awards overall—impressive because he won an additional two more awards after the ceremony held in April 2020, two more in 2021 and one more in 2019.

 Kirk also gained some chatter from a source close to the artist, The Guardian, who favorably compares Kirk to other artists such as Busta Rhymes, Eminem, Missy Elliott and Ludacris. Inside continued by stating the many similarities between the artists:

“Inventive rap stylists unafraid to make videos full of  parodies and rubber-faced camera goofs.”

 

  Dababy's career has taken off steadily since he started working with South Coast group. With the help of his management team, Dababy signed a seven figure recording deal with Interscope Records. His first studio album "Baby on Baby" peaked at number 25 on Billboard Hot 200 in early 2019. The album features offset, Rich homie Quan, Rich the kid and stunna 4 Vegas. The full album took around a year to record starting in 2018 and releasing in 2019. This became the first ever album that Interscope records received from Dababy and the first South coast music group seen him make. Despite the relationship Dababy grew with not just South coast record's as well as creating a new one with Interscope, Dababy decided to go down his own path and established Billion dollar baby entertainment.  Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment was created by Jonathan Kirk, aka Dababy, in 2019. Although Dababy was already signed with South Coast Music Group and Interscope Records, which helped him push his music out even further, Kirk wanted to go down his own path with recruiting and signing new artists along with finding undiscovered talents. Kirk aspires to be the stepping stones to new artists, the future to the hip-hop/rap community’s, as well as the future of his career and behave of his record label. Kirk speaks up about his goals and expectations:

“I won’t be rapping in 5 years, I won't be rapping. I’ll be creating other superstars”.

2019 was Dababy’s most impressive and busiest year yet, from closing 2019 with having over 22 entries on Billboard charts throughout the year to notable recognizance on hit features, such as, Post Malone’s “enemies”, peaking at number 16 on Billboard Hot 100, Lizzo’s “truth hurts”, and Lil Nasx’s “panini”. Also featuring in Meagen thee Stallion” Cash Out” and Quality Control’s “Baby” , both hits reaching top 40 on the charts Hot 100. Dababy has received acclaim for all his guest features heading multiple publications ranking it as his best verses of 2019. Including Complex Magazine naming it a “defining breakout moment for a new rap superstar”.

“Blame it on Baby” is the third studio album produced by Dababy and released via South Coast Music Group, Interscope records, and Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment on April 17th, 2020. The album became Dababy’s second consecutive number one album in the U.S, and included his highest charting single “Rockstar”, which spent 7 non consecutive weeks at number one on Billboard Hot 100. In June of that year, Kirk made his appearance on Jack Harlow’s “what's Poppin”, peaking at number two on Hot 100. All while “Rockstar” was still up at number one, making Dababy the 20th act to occupy the chart top 2 positions.

   Key Glock was born as Markeyvius Lashun Cathey on August 3rd, 1997. The now 24 year old American rapper and songwriter was raised in the soul of southern Memphis, Tennessee. Markeyvius is well known today by his rapper name, Key Glock. He is well favored across the world. Key Glock is most popular from his yellow tape collection albums to his collaboration albums with his late cousin, Young Dolph in "Dum and Dummer" 1 and 2. Key Glock has a uniqueness of style that follows with flow that comes straight out of the heart of Memphis. Not many rappers can admit they posses this type of style that has been developed over time. Key Glock wasn't always the well known artist that earned his title over night, he actually had a shocking and devestating child hood. Learn how this talented artist struggled with the curveballs life brought at him when he was just nearly 20 months old.

    Markeyvius, or Key Glock, was born to his mother, Tameika Cathey, preparing to bring her first and only son in to the world she quickly accepted the fact that she would be the only parent caring and raising their child by herself. Glocks father would go throughout his young sons life, popping in and out showing convenience of his time only. Glock quickly realized that he was far down on the list of prioritized in reference to his father. Tameika was just becoming comfortable with motherhood when she became incarcerated for 15 years.

   One thing that growing up in South Memphis taught and overall shaped the life ahead of Key Glock was that wether it came to business or street activity, he was being taught everything he's ever needed to know and has carried on with him over to adulthood. Glock was very confident during his teenage years, and from then on he'd become aware of his gut feelings that he would become rich and famous one day.

    In the 15 years that Tameika Cathey was in prison, Key Glock's grandmother would occasionally take him to visit his mother. Although it was painful to watch her baby boy grow up without her, she stayed positive and optimistic with a one-track mind of freedom and moving forward. Time carried on, years turned into months, and before Key knew it, he was a high school senior. At last, Tameika was released from prison. Emotions were high as a mother rejoined her child, and they began to build a bond and start over. Key reads a letter written dedicated to his mother:

   

   "I remember askin God, why me?! I              remember asking my grandma,                  where you at?! I remember telling you        that I couldn't wait till you got out and        come home. I remember going to              visitations and spending the lil' times        we did have together."

      This letter was written without a doubt to show love and importance. The letter reveals how hurt a younger Key felt and the amount of uncertainty that tied down a much younger Key. The letter was uploaded by Key on his Instagram with over 1.7 million followers. Tameika and Key have become extremely close and Key never misses an opportunity to spoil his mother. With always giving his mom every ounce of his time, making up for years that were lost. 

   Key Glock has a multi-faceted approach to being a rapper. He never forgets where he comes from, always staying true to his roots from Memphis, the same place he connects emotionally and also spiritually, a place where he found his enthusiasm over music, dabbling here and there for fun when he wasn't playing football or basketball, He comes out of Memphis, consistently reminding us of where he's from whilst equally maintaining a desire to be more than just an artist from Memphis. Key Glock is a one-of-a-kind rapper with an original style that sets him apart from other rappers in the industry.

   At an early age of Key Glock's life, he's always loved music, if it wasn't when after turning 12 years old recording his first freestyle of futures "Ain't No Way Around It", in 2011 to listening to artists such as Project Patt, Lil Wayne, Three6Mafia, and Gucci Mane, he always found music interesting. It was Project Pat's songs that ended up changing Glock's life, singles such as "If You Ain't From My Hood, "Gorilla Pimp, and even inpring Glock's break out song "Dig That."

   Key Glock was sitting in jail, when his aunt came to visit him. His aunt told him that his cousin, Young Dolph wanted to connect and discuss music. The two wouldn't meet until Thanksgiving of 2017, and was related through marriage from Glock's aunt. Key Glock actually hid his ambitions and enthusiasms from Dolph, and admits in an interview stating, "I ain't told him I was rapping." There closiness didn't begin over night, and Glock didn't let his walls down right away, but it was a friendship of a lifetime. Young Dolph went on and signed Glock to paper route Empire lable in the same year.

   Key Glock has always been a very creative rapper and he's always pursued expressing his style through his music, so Glock would always be selective on who he collaborates with, avoiding it all together at times. Until Young Dolph came in the picture that is, then it changed for the authentic rapper, making it where Glock would only collaborate with Dolph on anything. The twos very first single, where Glock Expressing that Dolph is his motivational inspiration in the hit, "Major". The single streamed 3 million views on YouTube alone in it's first week, and reached #47 on hot r&b Hip-hop songs chart. 

   On November 23, 2018 Key Glock released mixtape "Glockoma" with PRE and hit #17 on Hip-hop billboard charts. Following the hit mixtape with Young Dolph, "Dum and Dummer" released July 26, 2019 and reached #14 on the charts. Key Glock made studio albums, "Yellow Tape" on January 31, 2020, hitting #8 on hip-hop billboards. Glock then went on releasing his "Yellow Tape 2" over a year later on November 5, 2021, only days before the killing of his cousin Young Dolph. 

   Before Young Dolphs murder the duo, went on to create "Dum and Dummer 2" on March 26th,2021 and climbed to #5 on the hip-hop charts. 

   After losing Dolph in November of 2021, Glock stated in deleted Instagram post, "my left hand man, my brother, my cousin, my mentor, and drank partner. In the same month, Key Glock for a tattoo of Dolph in memory. 

   Today, Glock still struggles with the passing of his cousin, and is affected by the lose tremendously, torn up and completely a whole different person with reference in two interviews from 5 months in between. In January 2022, Glock released the single "Proud", tribute to Young Dolph, and Glock admits to feeling "really lost inside". 

   Key Glock lives on, missing his best friend, and admits that he doesn't have the same passion for making music he once had.

The Rise Of Slim Thug From The Streets To The Charts

Slim Thug is a legend in the rap game, with a career that has spanned over a decade, he is a definitive part of American pop culture. This article will discuss Slim's rise to fame, his music and style, and why he is one of the most important artists in recent history.

Slim Thug, (born Stayve Jerome Thomas on September 8th, 1980) is an American rapper from Houston, Texas. He is a co-founder of the label Boss Hogg Outlawz and once was a member of the Southern hip hop group Swishahouse. Most of his lyrics are aimed towards life in the Southern United States, including Houston, Atlanta and Memphis.

Slim Thug grew up not knowing who his father was. His mother worked hard for her seven kids, and he was the youngest of her children. His grandmother took care of him while his mother worked until he was about 13 or 14 years old. His oldest sister and uncle raised him, too.

When Slim was in middle school, to kill time, he joined the basketball team, which determined his identity and who he was. He didn't play basketball for long, though. Sports have never been an enjoyable pastime for Slim. Instead, he established his passion for music when he got older. While growing up, Slim spent more of his free time outside fixing and working on bikes or cars, working on anything that had potential to ride or start again. He became more and more uninterested in school and never stayed after for other extra activities, mostly because he was so easily distracted on what was happening around his block. After all, he was living right across the street from his school at the time.

Around the age of 14, Slim began a downward spiral, since he was the youngest, he was more impressionable. He looked up to his two older brothers, who allegedly stole cars on occasion and sold them. Unfortunately, Slim got caught up in this attempt to steal cars, and went to jail. Stealing cars meant one thing to Slim at this time: he could fix them up and turn around and sell them for a good price. Slim constantly tried to find a new way to hustle.

Besides minor run ins with the police over petty curfew laws, Slim never got into deep trouble. After getting caught up during the theift of a vehicle, he spent some time in jail and decided that would be his last time running into the law, and can proudly admit he never caught a felony charge or spent hard prison time.

Slim Thug's mother and family had hoped he would pursue a college degree after high school. Slim had other plans though; he accepted the fact that school wasn't for everybody, and never attended college.

 Slim started moving towards his dreams of music, branching out to meet people who shared his passion. He bonded with Stecil Hopkins, and they challenged one another through rapping, becoming freestyle partners that developed into a friendship. Unfortunately, in 1997 Stecil's life was cut short after being involved in a car accident, prior to shooting a music video earlier that day. Stecil was a passenger when the driver struck a light pole killing them. When Stecil died the tragedy affeted Slim greatly, his first experience with loss. 

When Slim Thug put more time and effort into his music career, he recorded his first single ever. His brother, Tayday, wrote the single. The two recorded their collaboration on a homemade karaoke machine.

Death reared its ugly head once again. A good friend, mentor, and role model to the crew that Slim hung around, passed away suddenly. Sleepdawg was what he went by, and was the first out of the friends that began making money off music. Despite his friendship towards his group being short lived, his unfortunate death from simply being in a holding tank hit everyone extremely hard.

 Slim Thug's career as a rapper began to take off when he was 17 years old. While freestyling at a high school party, Slim Thug's raps and style caught the attention of Michael Watts, an influential producer of the Swishahouse label. Watts invited him out to his studio the next day, and after working together for some time Watts offered him a job on his label.

The first freestyle by Slim, j dawg, and lil Mario was in Swish '98. The freestyle was the beginning of Slim's success, and the freestyle spread quickly through the south like wild fire. Fans responded enthusiastically to it, and they felt satisfaction like never before.

Slim began growing his fan base pretty quickly after Swisha '98, resulting in the need for growth, and with expansion for growth took money to make it all come together. Micheal Watts already explained that he would not give Slim a free handout, or invest in any cash for his upbringing, instead Watts encouraged them by supplying all the blank tapes and CD's they would need to become successful. Slim saw his window to shine and do something he's always been extremely good at, hustle, getting his opportunity to make serious cash.

The biggest point of Slim Thugs career followed after his contributions to hit single "Still Tippin'" created by fellow rapper Mike Jones. This accomplishment gained mainstream attention to Slim's career in a major way, and still today, the single is a well known classic that reached the 2005 MTV 2 Awards and was nominated by fans. 

In July of 2005, Slim Thug finally releases his big Debut album, "Already Plantium", (while delayed multiple times) and got promotion from StarTrack Entertainment and Interscope records. His first album was a huge success, premiering #2 on the Billboard 200 album chat. Selling 130,000 copies in it's first week. The album included singles like, "3 Kings" that featured T.I and Bun B, "I ain't heard of that" featuring Pharrell and Bun B, the hit "still Tippin'" with Mike Jones and Paul Wall.

Slim became the face of the North, and fans quickly picked up his new form of rap music, as popularity blew up for him and Swishahouse they quickly became booked up with shows and concerts. The Swishahouse manager during that time, found difficulty planning and scheduling their shows due to the high volume of demands wanting Slim Thug to preform. Looking for quick solutions to the problem, he suggested a split performance from the Swishahouse group, meaning different artists in different places performing, fans declined this suggestion and really only wanted Slim Thug in person. 

The "Kappa '99" mixtape was released in 2005, and was performed by Swishahouse during the yearly beach party called "The Kappa" taking place every year in Galveston, Texas. The traditional beach party attends guests across the nation once every year, and let's fans party, attend concerts, and support their favorite artists. Houston's very own Swishahouse would go and sell their shirts and CD's, spreading their names and to gain more hype. This also took place during a time of battle between the south and north side of Texas. The battle between rivals, rapper battle of Swishahouse and Screwed up click, with Slim Thug and Swishahouse being on the North side of Texas they affiliated with the color blue, and screwed up was the Southside of Texas which was known for adopting the color red. The southside became very envious of the north, and would even steal from the north. The beef the two rivals had devided Texas severally. 

The heat the two sides carried around became heavy and was said that if either side was caught on the wrong end of town that they would most likely get jumped. Causing a high concern in regular civilians and their property.

A member from the South side reached out to the ambassador of the North, calling from the phone lines from which he was serving out his remaining jail sentence was  Southsides, ESG. After many failed attempts to get Slim Thug on the phone, he was finally successful and offered up the white flag, an offer for a collaboration towards an album between the two. Slim agreed to the  collaboration album, after thinking about all the potential fans it would bring in he just couldn't refuse. The streets of Houston calmed down and tensions were no longer high after the two created their first single together.

While Slim was working with Swishahouse and the Screwed Up Click, he was growing more and more restless. He began to feel trapped, realizing he could make his own money by disturbing his own mixtapes. Unable to shake his feelings that he was falling short of what he might accomplish and his talents being held up from not only Micheal Watts but also from Swishahouse, he Ultimately, had just outgrown Swishahouse; it was time for him to move on and do something new. With so much creativity, it was pouring out of him constantly and this led him sneaking into Swishahouse studio to record Slim's solo tracks. Resulting in getting caught, Slim had to face the music and come clean about feeling bored with what he was doing. After coming clean, Slim set off on his own creating new doors for his career and fame.

In 2008, Slim parted ways with Swishahouse, StarTrack, and Interscope Records on good terms. He began creating music independently and founded his own label, Boss Hogg Records. He hired his best friend from high school to be the first employee of the label, along with others such as J-dawg, Lil Ray, and C-Ward. He also collaborated with ESG (a Screwed up click member that worked well with Slim Thug). The two put together "Boss Hogg Outlawz and ESG" with hit single "Get Ya Hands Up," which featured Shawn Blaze, and first time appearance from Bun B, that helped branch Slim's music off to different radio stations. The hit single is still today, considered a popular classic. 

In 2009, Slim released his second studio album "Boss of All Bosses", it was Slim's first solo album after leaving Swishahouse. Although the album wasn't as successful as his first, it still reached #15 on Billboard hot 200, and sold 32,000 copies the first week after dropping. The album also included the popular hit "I Run." 

From there on, Slim established his solid ground, layed out independently, he was succeeding without any major promotions. Slim went strong in making his legacy through hip-hop, and in 2010, he released his third studio album "Tha Thug Show." Which included single "Gangsta" featuring Z-ro. Then in  April of 2013, Slim released EP tited, " Welcome To Texas" features from Rick Ross, Pimp C, and Ludacris among with many others. And again in 2013, his fourth studio album "Boss Life".

Getting older and growing up, Slim's way of thinking matured, and he wasn't seen out partying  as often as he once was. He started worrying more about his future man he would be becoming rather than his present reputation he lead. He started a "get better or get worse" workout motivation slogan, for not only himself, but to inspire anybody and everybody to get healthier. Slim already began experiencing health issues from weight, and a family history of high blood pressure, so he decided to get into shape, influencing more people to set a goal for a healthier way of living.

Slim continued to get rich, creating his Hogg life trilogy albums, which included, "The Beginning" , "Still Surviving" , and "Hustler Of The Year" all released in 2015. Then came the last album of Hogg Life in 2016, "American King". 

Over the course of the last six years, besides 2017, Slim released a album for each year, and 2017, he put two albums out in that same year, "Welcome 2 Houston" and "The World Is Yours". Skipping to 2018, he dropped "Suga Daddy Slim: on the prowl" in 2019, "Thug Life" in 2020, "SDS Vibes" in 2021, and his latest master piece of being this year "BIGSlim" (2022). 

Slim Thug father's 3 sons, Dreux, Kobe, and Stayve jr. Although he's a single parent, he makes sure his son's have a present father figure in there life's. Him and his son's mother's have a strong CO parenting relationship, and he supply's all the resources he can to make sure they are successful in whatever they set there minds to. He never wants his children to experience the hardship he faced of not having a dad in his life, and never wants them to feel the burden of what it feels to go without. Slim goes about his life humbled, frequently remembers back to a time where he didn't have much to his name, and coming all the way to the top, he truly feels blessed. Thanking God every step of his journey, he attendes church every Sunday.

Slim Thug's inspiring message to any young kid hustling in life states:

"Kids keep in mind, I don't sell drugs, everything I got is legit. Stay focused, stay prayed up, and stay making Boss moves. You could have everything you ever dreamed of." 

Today, Slim invest in his long love for cars. He admits that it might be an expensive passion, but it is his only luxury way he chooses to spend his money on. Back in 2020, Slim went to release "Thug Life", following releasing the news of testing positive for COVID-19. 

Slim Thug frequently gives back to Houston, feeding the needy, and building homes for homeless, you can't say Houston without Slim Thug. His hometown also dedicated February 25 to official "Slim Thug" day.

Young Dolph - The Life & Legacy Of A Complex, Independent, Self-Made Man

  

    The impact of Young Dolph’s life will forever be remembered in the numerous hearts he has touched with his incredible talent and superb character. He was born into a world of hardship, but grew up to make the best out of what he was given with hopes and aspirations to do better. He was truly one of a kind and his journey will live on forever in the souls who felt touched by his music and overall inspired by all of his acts of generosity. It is unfortunate that he had to leave this earth at such early stages of life leaving his legacy of his children, music, and talent behind, but today we can pause and reflect upon our time spent with this superstar from a spinning star.  

    True beauty shines through in the music of Young Dolph, an influential hip-hop artist and legendary figure who has impacted the music world.

    The life of a fallen legend, leader, and inspiration to not only just his fans but as well as his two children he left behind. How the aftermath shocked the world when the unexpected news traveled like wild fire across every news channel sweeping the nation. Never forgotten and beloved American rapper and songwriter, Young Dolph, or otherwise addressed by his loving family, main main Adolph Robert  Thornton Jr.

  Born in the summer of '85, in southern Chicago, and later adopted to his deeply rooted native hometown, the "home sweet home" of Memphis when he was just nearly a 2 year old. Taken in by his grandmother and raised, which during that time was seen as acceptably normal due to the "crack baby"/ crack cocaine epidemic in the 80's. Infact most of his peers in his crime-ridden, drug abused neighborhood was living with grandparents, or being brought up only by grandparents, and this was a well know way of living.

  Thornton only would visit his parents once every couple of weeks, which taught him young that he would strive for a xbetter life. 

  Thornton's goal ever since he could remember actually, was to earn enough money to get out of his bad neighborhood and earn enough money for his self and his family, never to face unfortunate circumstances again.

  His time spent being raised by his grandmother, taught Thornton how to be a respectful, independent,  providing leader. He once described his grandmother as “the meanest motherfucker in the world”.  His grandmothers tough parenting style stuck with him through his life, and when it was time to father children, he began to show the same parenting technique as she once did.

Dolph said in an interview,

"I didn't get that shit at the time... All the shit she was telling you, you get to seeing that shit when you hit about 15." 

  Dolph's grandmother also didn't allow him to have friends come visit or stay the night. On occasion though, she would find it in her heart and let homeless friends stay over or even sleep.

  Dolph attended high school at Hamilton High school. 

  After being influenced in his early impressionable years, Dolph was introduced to the fast and shiny life that drug involvement offered. The street life became a part of an equation to the biggest solution, on the surface it seemed quick and easy, but reality would hit hard, and the hard truth came out—the facts on empty promises and unfulfilled expectations about lifestyles, statistically proving to end young black men's lives in jail, prison or unfortunately leading to their deaths. 

    Thornton wasn't easily manipulated when it came down to fitting in with what was cool; after all, his grandmother had a huge impact on his life. His grandmother was basically all he had with no rewards, besides her  friendship and words of wisdom. She was the glue that held the family together.

  Some time went by, and Thornton was restless, he was fully aware that his time to step up and start contributing income was near, and at 12 years old, the entrepreneur opened up a small and self made barber shop, making $20-$30 per cut, in contributions to narcotics against cocaine. Not too long after, Thornton had to accept the hard realization that, his little earnings where no match in comparison to the kids around him hustling off the corner. Accepting and taking the loss for what it was, he ended his hair cutting services. 

  After witnessing friends and peers carry around serious cash, Young Dolph couldn't ignore the need to make money, so he fell into the streets, desperate to make it. He stayed sharp, never risking his freedom, and kept home life separate, including his grandmother's house, staying clear of crack addicts and crack cocaine in general. As far as drugs went, he would only sell narcotics. 

  Dolph still tried to keep his life on the right track without hurting anyone, including his grandmother, who had lived a hard life as is, and deserved better than living around drug users and violence. Unfortunately, she found out sooner rather than later, and the fact that he wasn't able to protect her from the hard reality was disappointing. He wanted to make her proud, but he knew that he couldn't do it with his current lifestyle.

  Realizing what he had done to his grandmother, the thought made him cry. He decided to find another way to earn money.

  After deciding what going to prison would likely mean, and what he risked losing by selling drugs, that wasn't something he could make as a career path for the rest of his life.

  Always having an ear for music, it was not hard to be influenced, especially when there were rappers such as Master P and Jay Z to get encouragement from. Not to mention, music was always something Dolph had a passion for. From there on, Dolph set it as a personal goal to accomplish wealth through his own style.

  At the age of 16, Young Dolph became obsessed with making music. To this end, he had no TV in his room—he only wanted a radio to keep himself focused on his goal. Since he wasn't making  money off that music yet, he was unable to give 100 percent potential, leading into him still in and out of the streets. He shot his first gun during this time period.

  After Young Dolph met rap partner and best friend Daddy O, Young Dolph's life turned around completely. Young Dolph and Daddy O became so popular that the neighbors would gather outside to listen to them rap battle and freestyle. Dolph's neighbors encouraged that he should put his music out for the world to hear.

  On March 5th, 2008, the unimaginable had happened, forever affecting Young Dolph, He was crushed. His heart was broken. No preparations could've made his pain  and suffering any easier from the of a loved one, especially someone as significant to the one women who raised him—raising him into an outstanding young man. The pain that came after losing someone so sincere and dear had him dealing with some deep pain in he had to get through, and that forever changed him. From that day on, the determination to make something out of himself was unreal and it was almost like t put a supercharged battery in his back.

  Going hard in hopes that his music would take off at any given day, he grewbere eassuh curious into finding out how well his music was received, rapper Young Dolph adopted an experimental approach, releasing singles from time to time.

  In 2008, one of Dolph's friends from the neighborhood got him to come along on a hangout session with him and Boozie Badazz. Dolph had been going through a phase in his career where he was less and less enthusiastic about the money potential music. But when he met Boozie, his tone changed completely. While hanging out with Boozie, he quickly learned that Boozie was making Drea serious bank with his music. Then Lil Boozie went on to explain to Dolph why his music was worth pursuing, and how it would generate serious revenue if he were patient and focused.

  By the time the hangout was over and Boozie and Dolph went there separate ways, Dolph knew one thing for sure, and that was knowing he would rap professionally one day, to stop questioning his career, and completely devoit his life to making music.

  Young Dolph dropped his first mixtape, “Paper Route Campaign,” in late 2008 with Daddy O. The two created their independent music label, Paper Route Entertainment, shortly thereafter.

   Young Dolph started pushing his CDs none stop, so much that eventually it was the same people getting handed the same cds 4 or 5 times before, so much that during shows he would throw them at the crowds and go back the next day just to pick the ones back off the floor and do it all over again. Dolph would even have these bigger guys working for him, wearing backpacks full of his cds, stand outside of shows. After while the same people were repeatedly given the same cds and decided to just plug the cd in and listen.

  While booking shows around Memphis, the word started spreading, creating heavy buzz about him and his developing career, along with having his music being exceptional. He faced many trials and tribulations that helped shape his career as an artist and as a person, but nothing could shake this man's drive for success. Young Dolph had rapping in his bloody and it wasn't long before he caught the attention of some big names in the game

even like yo Gotti, Drumma Boy and Juicy J, who would go on to feature him on some of their own albums.

    Two years have passed, continuing pushing on his Paper Route Compaign mixtape, and eventually with hard work that pays off, his popularity began to branch out all over the south, and even reaching spots in Atlanta, GA.

    Going into 2010, Young Dolph dropped "Welcome to Dolph World" and it was listed as his official second mixtape. DJ Scream ended up hosting Dolphs show, investing serious cash  for him to do be able to, and since 2-chainz featured with Dolph the prior time before.  Dolph began getting paid making 5,000  a show. Dolph ended up throwing $10,000  back into the crowd just for publicity, creating more buzz than what he really had at the end, also so he could start being seen more as a serious rapper.

    Dolph worked relentlessly to grow his name bigger and better that ever, and not soon after that he ended up meeting  Drumma Boy, who introduced him and Gucci Mane. Immediately Gucci Mane and Dolph hit it off, even though Gucci was having Dolph pay for a feature, he invited Dolph to his studio out in Atlanta right after the song blew up.

    During the time at Gucci Manes studio,  Dolph was offered a spot on Gucci Manes label. respectfully declining the offer and went to further explain his vision and views on being an independent Memphis rapper, Gucci didn't see any disrespect towards his decision and respected his loyalty to his streets.ucci settled to just becoming his mentore, and was greatful to have an opportunity to work with him and all his potential talent he had to offer.

    Gucci Mane and Young Dolph's relationship grew over that year, and in 2011 they put together 2 mixtapes, High Class Street Music. It featured the official Gucci Mane track named "I'm booked up", and High Class Street music 2: Hustlers Paradise.

    Later in 2011, Daddy O and Dolph came to the conclusion to make the business decision of changing the label "Paper Route Entertainment" to "Paper Route Empire" and creating the famous "PRE" chain Dolph is seen wearing in his music videos.

    November 2011, was the release of "High Class Street Music II- Hustlers Paradise" Which mentioned all the Memphis artist that rose to fame. Featured Juicy J in "I Think I'm Sprung". This is Where Yo Gotti and Dolph's first reported relationship going south started, since Yo Gotti is a fellow Memphis rapper 

    2012 Dolph countined to make and release music, and he eventually made his single "preach" making it the first success song of his career. The single hit R&B charts peaking number 24 on the Billboards. April 6th of 2012, was the release of "A Time To Kill" and on November 14th of 2012 Dolph dropped "Blue Magic", making it his and Futures first track together.

    On March 16, 2013 was the release of "EastAtlantaMemphis", Dolph and Gucci's collaboration mixtape. May 13, 2013 was the sequel to the third High Class Street Music: "Trapping out the Mansion", which was the mixtape that gave him his first taste of what going viral felt like, Then again in 2013, Dolph's mixtape features From DJ Screw "South Memphis Kingpin".

    2014 was the release of the 4th High Class Street Music-American Gangsta. In 2015, High Class Street Music, Vol. 5: Plug Best Friend was released, featuring 2 Chainz; the album peaked at number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earned platinum status. The single "Cut It" reached number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received double platinum certification.

  2016 was the release of Young Dolph's debut studio album, "King of Memphis", hitting #49 on Billboard 200.

    2017 was an eventful year for Dolph, not only for his career, but also on a personal level as well. From Surviving gunshots, to creating two studio albums back to back. Dolph discovered a long lost relative during his visit in Chicago, where his mother's side of the family lives, realizing who his second cousin was, a fellow rapper originated from Chicago known by as Juice Wrld. The two rappers never really got the chance to become close after all, Juice Wrld did end up overdosing and dying late 2019, and the difference of style they both had probably wasn't something they could bond over easily.

    During the course of 2017, Young Dolph had some to close for comfort situations in reference of his life. Not one but two failed attempts to murder Dolph occured just months in between of each other. Although As everyone knows, the entrepreneur was a success independently, and with that in itself comes rivals and jealousy. Not to mention Dolph was known for refusing large amounts of money that were offered in hopes he would give in and sign with a record label upsetting quite a few rappers that might have taken offense to his self titled "king of Memphis", making him not the only successful rapper out of Memphis. It was with no surprise that Young Dolph had enemies and hidden snakes amongst him. In Dolph's single "Play Wit Yo Bitch", witch featured on his studio album "Gelato", was a diss track calling out and taking shots towards Yo Gotti (a fellow Memphis rapper). Not long after the release of the diss track dropping, was the first failed attempt to murder Young Dolph. While riding in his SUV, Dolph found himself a target of multiple gunshots, as an assailant unloaded a clip full of bullets towards Dolphs vehicle. Thankfully, Dolph survived with a minor wound to his arm. Feeling pretty untouchable and cocky, he considered himself somewhat as "bulletproof". Dolph went on to perform at his concert, despite the gunshot he had to his arm, he showed up as scheduled to keep from any disappointment and to deliver a message, that nothing would keep him from rising. He premiered his hit single "100 Shots" (which went gold) and became number one on his second studio album labeled Bulletproof.

  Again in 2017, yet another attempt to bring Dolph down was a bust. More life threatening than the first incident, this should have woke Dolph up, bringing him to be more cations and careful. During the altercation it quickly became far more life serious, when two men began a fight with Dolph outside of an hotel on the night of September 26th, it resulted in shooting the rapper three times in his upper body. Dolph was rushed to the nearest hospital and medics stated his life was in critical condition. Three hours of undergoing surgery, Dolphs doctors finally  made another statement, indicating he would pull through. Yo Gotti became a person of interest, and soon was arrested. Due to not enough evidence, Yo Gotti was released.

    He spent two weeks recovering in the hospital, and despite almost dying, Dolph seized the opportunity to use his downtime productively. During his recovery he managed to create his third studio album "Thinking Out Loud", and even put together  a music video shoot during his stay. Impressively enough all that came with two studio ms with just seven months between te two attempted murders on his life, a single going gold, along with putting out mixtapes such as "Tracking numbers", "Rare" in collaborations with K Camp, and "I'm Innocent" with Black Yougsta grew Dolphs fan base and gave him more popularity ever than before. Just to finish it all up with a music video shoot for his third studio album from the time spent at his hospital stay.

    In 2018, Dolph created hit single "Get Paid" which climbed to #35 on Billboard charts. After Dolph caught ear of the news going around about two university students losing their jobs after playing the hit single Get Paid, he flew the two Young men out to his concert, brought them up on stage, did a shout out and thanked them, finally giving them $20 thousand total, $10 thousand each.

    Young Dolph went on creating his fourth studio album "Role Model" selling 31 thousand copies sold. Role Model also featured single "Major", which was first track with Dolph's very own newest signed artist and family member by marriage, Key Glock"  reaching Billboard 200, along with  "Niggas get shot everyday" 

    Two years before his life is tragically taken from us, he begins to make his acts of kind disturbtions more public, creating challenges on social media, for example, #thatsmajorchallenge, was for social media and encouraged contestants to submit a music video doing the craziest stunts to the hashtagged challenge. From there on Dolph would pick a winner. Flying the winner out, so he could meet the major challenge winner gave him two options for his prize, either $30 thousand cash or one of Dolphs many of vehicles he owned. The winner picked the the cash.

    More of Young Dolphs many of ways he gave back and shared his fortunes was that he would ride around his neighborhood, and stop at basketball courts, where kids would be playing, and make bets for cash, purposely loosing of course just for a reason to give those kids a good amount of money. He even made another random challenge on social media for a reason to give away his blue and yellow Lamborghini to a woman in need. Young Dolph also was constantly purchasing properties and houses, fixing up and giving them away for a lot cheaper to families less fortunate. He owned over 100 properties that were completely his.l Always having his kids best interest at heart, he bought four closures for both of his children on their birthdays.

    At the end of 2019, he made mixtape with Key Glock named "Dum and Dummer" in efforts to boost the  popularity of Key Glock. Over the course of meeting and signing Key Glock, the two had gotten extremely close, and had made quite a few songs together, and today you can tell just by Key Glocks music videos and songs how much Dolphs death affected him, and how he pays respect and loyalty to his fallen family, friend, and mentore.

    Young Dolph's murder had happened during Memphis's largest increased record high murder cases crisis. There was reports of 241 killings in just that single day alone.

    On November 17th, 2021, the day Young Dolph was gunned down outside of his favorite place back home, cookie bakery in his hometown of Memphis was one that the world and the srret45 With over twenty shots fired directly into his body, it seemed as if the killers wanted to be certain that the job was done right this time—as if there was an award to getting the job done the third time. Aware that the first and second attempt had been unsuccessful.

    From his remarkable stories to tell to his outstanding leadership skills, it was all in efforts to make the world a better place. Remembering the life of Young Dolph and his most inspirational accomplishments, leading a life his children can proudly follow, and recognizing his acts of gratitude, generosity, and humbleness. A undoubtedly known legend taken from this world way to soon, and with only 4 months passing since the unimaginable assassination of his life has gone by, he is now and will forever be deeply missed and never forgotten for the true leader and talent he really was. Who took an unspeakable tragedy and loss to soon from this world leaving many shocked and devastated once again by the current state of today’s society. RIP young Dolph.

Z-RO | Houston O.G. Rapper

  

  Z-ro was born Joseph Wayne McVey IV on January 19th, 1977. The 45 year old rapper, songwriter, and record producer was named one of America's most underrated rappers in the history of hip hop by New York Times in 2007. He grew up in the streets of Houston, Texas which shaped him into the man he is today. Z-ro’s talent has given him the ability to stand out amongst some of the greatest rappers in the industry. Anyone can make a hit record but few can make an impact on society like Z-ro has. In his early career he was affiliated with DJ Screw and the Screwed Up Click (SUC) and also a original member of the Screwed Up Click, to working with Slim Thug, Z-ro’s accomplishments easily rival that of mainstream artists. His influence can be seen from coast to coast whether it be from his collaboration with UGK or being performed on New York radio. The fact that he has stayed so true to his roots shows us that he will always remain an important part of hip hop culture.

  Before there was astartedn S.U.C., there was Rap-A-Lot Records, and before there was an S.U.C, Z-ro was in the rap game. He started his music career in 1994 with Fisherboy Records, but soon left to pursue other options in his career. In 2000, Z-ro released his first solo album titled "Z-Ro vs. The World", which is his best selling album of all time and is considered one of the best rap albums of all times. Although he has released over 15 studio albums since then, he still hasn't received the appreciation he deserves. 

   If you've never heard of Z-ro, it's time to get familiar. He's also known as the "Mo City Don" because he's a member of the historic South Park Coalition (SPC) rap group. He has collaborated with some of the most notable rappers in hip hop including: Scarface, Big Hawk, Jay'Ton, Chamillionaire, Paul Wall, Guerilla Maab, Tanya Herron, Lil' Flip and more.

   Z-ro released five albums from 2001 to 2005 before his debut album "Let the Truth Be Told" made it to number 79 on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2009 he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for his appearance on UGK's song "Still Ridin' Dirty". He has also received three nominations from BET Hip Hop Awards and three from Ozone Awards throughout his career.

   Z-Ro released his first EP under The Mo City Don named tripolar in 2013. Then in 2015, releasing his first proper studio album in three years, named "Melting the crown." 2017, Z-ro announced his retirement and released "No Love Boulevard" in June, his final album. He came back out of retirement 6 months later following a release album named "Codeine", which was released later that same year. He went on to release six more albums throughout 2018 from 2022, with the most recent being titled "Morpheus Dream".

   Z-Ro is a true Houston legend. In his long career, he’s solidified his place in the hearts of Houston music fans and paved the way for other great artists to come out of the city. On top of that, he’s been able to bridge the gap between the older and younger generations of rap artists.
